Studying the impact of innovation on business and society

The Future of Media is Currently in Production

Broadcast journalism evolves with every new medium that emerges. Social media certainly opened the doors to new forms of content and distribution channels, but in the end, value, consistency and engagement separates those who find a long-term audience from those flail in obscurity. The market for relevant and compelling content is infinite, regardless of medium.

While traditional media learns to adapt, new visionaries arise to push the boundaries and possibilities of media and design fresh business models to support it. Such is true for my next guest on Revolution. Shira Lazar is not only a good friend, she’s also one of the practicing pioneers of new journalism.

Over the years, she’s produced and hosted a number of social programs including specials for the GRAMMY’s and the Oscars along with creating live news and talk show programs for CBS News. Lazar is now host and producer of WhatsTrending.com, an award winning live show that features notable guests, celebrities and business leaders with guests including Richard Branson, Robert Rodriguez, Forest Whitaker, Snoop Dogg, and Tony Hsieh.

Shira continues to challenge the status quo and it’s her tireless pursuit of what’s next that will earn her a place on the various screens of viewers for years to come, “You have to bring value to the viewer….bring broadcast quality content, but with the authenticity and interactivity of the social web.”

p.s. congratulations to the What’s Trending team on its Primetime Emmy nomination!

It’s not the platform it’s the content! Great article and video.

Thanks to Social Media and people like you, Chris, Seth and others we have all become focused on the message (content) rather than the medium (aka: the tools).  The latter is only the facilitator.

Great video and extremely relevant!  I found it particularly helpful that the video stressed fact checking and how it further defines “professional” vs. “social”. As always, content is king.

  10. This content is really boring. 2 people talking to one another. It’s like watching daytime cable.
