Studying the impact of innovation on business and society

Video: Media Consumption vs. Usage and the New Role of Digital Sociologists

In part three of a series of conversations discussing the state and future of social media with Chris Beck, founder of 26dottwo (@26dottwo), we review media consumption and usage and how in social networks, individuals are in control of defining their own experiences. As such, organizations are now required to study the cultures of each community in order to learn how to best establish a presence to equalize the dynamics of engagement.

The idea of a digital sociologist is discussed in part three of the Hybrid Theory Manifesto and it is through this fieldwork that we learn how to identify the various roles of the social consumer as well as the networks of relevance (Nicheworks) within the greater networks that populate Facebook and Twitter overall.

This series was filmed at the new video studio at KickLabs SF where I spend time as an entrepreneur in residence.

Well done, Brian (and 26dottwo). Proof that good content combined with good production values = a powerful combination.
