Hosted at CNET, SF Newtech attracts startups, service providers, and entrepreneurs to network, forge alliances, and potentially mash up. Web 2.0 Logo Color Palette for Photoshop

Proof that if good or interesting news sits out on the web long enough, it will make it’s way to the forefront eventually. A piece that ran in February 2006 over at Milesā€™ Blog Ā» The Web 2.0 Secret Weapon, is on the Digg front page today. Basically Miles created a color palatte or swatch if you will that breaks out varying levels of colors by Web 2.0 companies. It’s almost like fusing Web 2.0 with Pantone. Now SwissMiss revisited…

The Evolution of Social Media Press Release Distribution and Technorati Tags

As the future of Social Media Press Releases takes shape, it will take a community effort to keep it on track as well as encouraging mass adoption. As part of the Social Media Club along with Chris Heuer and many others, I’m surrounded by industry visionaries who are pushing the movement forward, while also broadening the overall industry opportunity for Social Media in online public relations. Weā€™ve also recently formed a Working Group to help establish an industry standard for…

October 2006 Silicon Valley NewTech Meetup

While Alison McNeill attended the del.icio.us Birthday Bash, I co-hosted the Silicon Valley NewTech Meetup with Keith Vu, while Vincent Lauria was traveling to NY. Keith Vu Exciting indeed as it was definitely one of the largest events to date. There were some familiar faces and it was great to see new attendees as well. At over 600 current members, the monthly event is showing only signs of tremendous growth – which may require a new, bigger venue soon. Brian…

del.icio.us Birthday Bash!

Written by Alison McNeill Photo Credit: Scott Beale / Laughing Squid . Last night I attended the del.icio.us birthday bash at the monstrous Yahoo headquarters, and yes, it was quite delicious! This was very different from previous events I have gone to in that it was bigger, more relaxed and there was tons of delicious food! Sorry, Iā€™ll try to use a different adjective for the rest of the article. Joshua Schachter, Photo Credit: Jeremiah Owyang My colleague and I,…

Business Week Lays Off 15 Reporters Due to Market Conditions

Online media, citizen media, and traditional print publications are competing at unprecedented levels, which are forcing many publishers to tighten their belts as a way of gunning for survival. Any tighter and they may suffocate themselves. BusinessWeek just cut 15 reporters from staff, including good friend, Larry Armstrong. The publication is citing difficulties in the market. It’s true that publications are laying off staff and it isn’t new. However, it’s always interesting to see who they target in their rounds….

More Web 2.0 Exit Strategy Badges

Marco Rosella recently ran a post on Web 2.0 exit strategy badges and prepping for the upcoming Web 2.0 Conference in San Francisco. I also covered it and offered a few more suggestions. Well, the creativity never stops I guess, so I’m publishing a few more ideas to complement Marco’s initial line-up of exit badges. I still say that we should get some of these made and pass them around at all of the events. In fact, let’s get these…

Shutterfly Hits the Street with IPO – Web 1.0 Still Has Legs

Online photo sharing and printing service Shutterfly raised $87 million in an IPO today, closing up 3.7% at $15.55 per share, reaching a ceiling of $16.73, according to VentureBeat. Marshall Kirkpatrick of TechCrunch observed, “In a time when IPOs are among the least common liquidity events enjoyed by Web 2.0 startups, for a photosharing site to remain independent and go public is interesting relative to all the startups we profile here.” I personally find this interesting on many levels. Just…

Web 2.0 Exit Strategy Badges

Kudos over to Marco Rosella for his clever post on Web 2.0 exit strategy badges and prepping for the upcoming Web 2.0 Conference in San Francisco. Thanks for the tip from Valleywag. He writes, “With the definitive affirmation of blogs, podcasts, wikis, video and photo sharing, social bookmarking and all the other instruments that value the single user as an ā€˜activeā€™ part of the web, the continual creation-sharing-reuse of contents ride with a rhythm high as the growth of the…
